Welcome to Dayue Bai’s zone! I am a senior computer science student at University of California, Irvine. Since 2018 summer, I have been working with Prof.Chen Li on a research project named Cloudberry, which is a general-purpose middleware system to support Big Data visualization. My main focus is to implement an Elasticsearch adapter that translates queries and connects Cloudberry to Elasticsearch. In addition, I also rebuilt an entirely new UCI Campus Directory from scratch and evaluated several open-source database systems and BI services.
I expect to graduate in 2019 Fall and am actively applying for graduate programs in Computer Science. To know more about me, feel free to check out my projects and the incoming post: Interesting facts about me. Let’s stay in touch!
Senior Computer Science Student, 2016 - 2019 Fall

Cooperated with instructors to design API documentation of a full-stack web development project and wrote test cases.
Answered questions on Piazza, implemented sample projects, and graded over 200 students’ demos and quizzes.
Implemented an Elasticsesarch adapter that translates queries and connects Cloudberry, an open-source middleware system, to Elasticsearch (Scala, Play Framework).
Designed an ingestion pipeline that leverages multithreading to clean and load data into Elasticsearch efficiently (tested on 1.5 billion tweets).
Deployed Cloudberry and Elasticsearch on a cluster (5 nodes) which boosts keywords search query speed by 35%.
Evaluated open-source databases and BI services, including Apache Druid, Greenplum, Neo4j, and Amazon QuickSight.
Counseled undergraduate students in major selection, class scheduling, and resource referrals.
Act as a liaison between staff, faculty, and students in resolving academic advising problems.
Assisted over 100 students in labs in debugging coding assignments (C++, Python) and referred online tutorials.
Developed communication and problem-solving skills.
